Since I poured my little heart out about my love / hate relationship with Instagram I have received some lovely messages of support and encouragement – from those who also struggled with ‘the curse of the suggested user’ to those who have obsessed with their follower count for years.
Every single message has been positive and I know deep down that I have made the right decision.

I have a love / hate relationship with this photo sharing app. I joined the ‘gram about seven years ago under the name ’27something’. I mainly posted heavily edited photos of cups of coffee and other crap that was cropped into a circle. I even had my own hashtag #27somethingcircleoflove OH MY!
I had developed a new found love for photography and backed by a strong community, Instagram friendships soon turned into real friendships.
In the early days I’d seen a handful of my followers become suggested users and I desperately wanted to become part of that ‘club’. My invite arrived on the Nineteenth of June Twenty Fourteen. I woke that morning to see that Instagram had followed me!

It was Autumn 2011 and I had discovered an app called Instagram. My Instagram feed of today doesn’t look like it did 6 years ago. Back then my handle was twentysevensomething. Every photo was circular, over edited with a horrendous candy coloured hue and contained some form of fake crap lightleak or bokeh effect. I even created my own hashtag ’27somethingcircleoflove’ (cringe).
One day whilst exploring the popular page (remember that), I came across a picture of a cup of coffee with an amazing sparkle effect that I just HAD to have! The photo taker was This is Jules (at the time she was @Julezwills) and boy was she up to date with the latest crap lightleak apps…. She instantly replied and the rest, as they say is history.
