OK, so this in an honest and probably controversial post but I just wanted to get it out…
Instagram launched in October 2010. That’s nearly NINE years ago. I joined around 2012. It was new and exciting and totally different to Facebook and MySpace. I posted heavily edited pictures of my coffee and the odd house plant with some nice glistening bokeh #cringe. MySpace is an oh so distant memory and I only use Facebook now for drunken check-ins (cos you’ve got to broadcast when a mama has a night out), hilarious memes and to self-promote my blog posts. I’ve had a Facebook account for over a decade! A DECADE! I’m bored of Facebook now and you know what…
I’m bored of seeing the same posts, the same front door, the same boomerang, the same cliques (think mean girls), the same flatlay and the same Marks n Sparks dress (which i’m 100% guilty of). My Instagram & Twitter feed is full of people complaining about the ‘algorithm’, that ‘no one’ is seeing their posts and that the general engagement and love on their feed is non existent.
You know what hun…. If your followers have been on the ‘gram for as long as I have, they too are probably just as bored as I am…
Having started my Instagram account from scratch last year, trying to grow my following is slow ass process. The follow/unfollow game is driving me insane. Hun, please stop, i’m already following you. I’m tired of the effort. Even though I one million percent agree that what you put in you will get in return BUT I just can’t be bothered. It’s such a chore. I hate that you can’t have the swipe up function if you have less than 10k followers! I’ve had it, loved it and think instagram should stop being a dick! Discrimination much?!
Do I want to spend all of my ‘ever so precious’ free time scrolling through an app liking content for a mere 1% return? Oh course not!
I’m more than likely having a mid thirties crisis for sure or the dreaded seven year itch but we all need to calm the F down over an app. The buzz for Instagram has long gone…
Don’t get me wrong i’ll be here until the end but i’m no longer worried about the ‘optimum’ posting time. I’ll post what I want and when i want and if you don’t want to turn that white heart red then so be it. I mean who actually likes every photo on their feed anyway? Not me!

Oh bloody hell Helen I so agree!! If I see one more reference to “the little ladies” , an ad for a leopard print skirt or pompoms on the floor of a lounge I’m going to scream xx it’s so hard for you as you have been there and done that!! I have chased likes and not got them so now I’m trying to focus on sales!! I just need one person to like my drawers/ wardrobe or garden furniture…. and if neom don’t send me a bright pink banana shaped candle then who cares!!

This! 100 per cent this!! I keep trying to build my gram following and just lose more followers than I gain. So sick of it. It doesn’t feel like a particularly nice place to be to be honest.

Yes!!! I find it not always conducive to my mental health to be honest… it can be stressful and creates jealousy, or generally the follow/unfollow does my ruddy head in so I get ticked off. Too many games. Saying that I also enjoy sharing my pics.. even though compared to some they look naff lol
Yes! I am beyond bored and don’t quite know what to do! Be more authentic? Post and engage less? Instagram went from being a fun platform into a demanding empty waste of time. It’s days are surely numbered! x
