LETS TALK ABOUT INSTAGRAM | PART THREE

LETS TALK ABOUT INSTAGRAM | PART THREE

It’s been three months since I deactivated my seven year old Instagram account that housed 49,271 followers. I get so many DM’s asking me why and if I have seen any improvement with my engagement. And YES. YES I have. Its crazy to think that my account with 49K followers was getting LESS ENGAGEMENT than my new account with 1700 followers.

The one major tip I have to switch to a business account! You can see who your audience is, where they are from, how old they are and more importantly what time they are online! It also gives insights into how many accounts have seen a particular image you have posted.

Take the below for example. 3094 unique accounts saw this image and 74% of those accounts weren’t following me. On average my photos are seen by 600 – 1200 accounts with 30% not following me. I have no idea why this image did so well! Obviously it would have been nice for all 3094 accounts to have liked the image but hey ho!

• I need a holiday • BUT you’re already on holiday I hear you cry! Ah but a holiday with a 2 year old is NOT a holiday! He’s lived off a diet of potatoes for the past 3 days, he’s attempting to break the world record of the fastest toddler leash free, we’ve had ice cream tantrums, countless head bumps and bruises, I’m not allowed to touch his hand because it’s ‘his hand’, I try to take his photo and he shouts at the top of his lungs that it’s ‘naughty’, he’s been asking to go home because that’s were the ‘bin truck’ is and he’s flat out refused to get dressed everyday! Safe to say I’ve hardly touched my book, had a siesta or got a tan! 🤷🏻‍♀️ Next time Daddy is coming! #toddlerlife #shouldhavepickedanadultsonlyhotel

Another question I get asked often is how do I edit my photos. Well Nancy here we go…

My Instagram account at the moment has a warm feel to it with punchy teals & coral and its’ all down to the Bethany Poteet preset I purchased for Adobe Lightroom.

How I edit my instagram photos

I’m going to show you how I edit my photos using my fancy F&F leopard print skirt of dreams shot.

First off I use the free Lightroom mobile app for iPhone. I do have the desktop version but I prefer to edit on my phone. As you can see the image is rather dark in places which takes the emphasis away from Sebastian and I.

I use the SAND preset from Bethany’s SANDY PACK. It’s super simple and involves copying the setting from the supplied image and paste onto your own. Voila. What a difference already!

Please note that a preset is a good starting point when editing an image and additional adjustments may often be required as lighting situations differ from image to image.

Next up I straighten the image – 9/10 what you think is straight isn’t always the case.

Then I crop to a square. I usually make sure the subject(s) are in the centre but it looked better with us slightly to the right.

And that’s me done in Adobe Lightroom.

I love love love to add a dusty texture to my images and for this I use an app called AFTERLIGHT.

On this particular image I also added a cheeky little light leak. Light leak 8 to be exact.

See how the edges have a slight glow? I’m not always a fan of light leaks sometimes they are over done and your photo looks shite.

Finally my favourite part. The old dusty filter. Again some look crap but my favourites are 1,2,9 & 10. You can choose between white dust and black. For this image I chose number 2 with white.

And there you have it. HOW I EDIT MY INSTAGRAM PHOTOS.
