It was Autumn 2011 and I had discovered an app called Instagram. My Instagram feed of today doesn’t look like it did 6 years ago. Back then my handle was twentysevensomething. Every photo was circular, over edited with a horrendous candy coloured hue and contained some form of fake crap lightleak or bokeh effect. I even created my own hashtag ’27somethingcircleoflove’ (cringe).
One day whilst exploring the popular page (remember that), I came across a picture of a cup of coffee with an amazing sparkle effect that I just HAD to have! The photo taker was This is Jules (at the time she was @Julezwills) and boy was she up to date with the latest crap lightleak apps…. She instantly replied and the rest, as they say is history.
Over the past 6 years, we’ve both wiped our Instagram feeds clean (thank god) and started a fresh. We’ve both been Instagram Suggested Users (remember that cracking privilege), moved from our 20’s to our 30’s, had babies, swapped travel tips for our many American adventures, exchanged cards, pencils, knitted hats and become firm Instagram / Facebook friends.
She’s the modern day pen friend.
After many cancelled coffee dates…..last Friday we FINALLY met up. It wasn’t weird. It wasn’t odd. It was like catching up with an old friend.
Our meeting place was Salts Mill in Saltaire, West Yorkshire. A place often frequented by Jules and Oscar.

Over a flat white in the Salts Diner, we chatted all things life, babies, holidays, blogging and of course our friendship on Instagram.
